Advanced green polymeric nano-systems for the effective recovery of valuable resources from waste water
Approach
Chemical transformations by heterogeneous catalysis, and nanotechnology are pivots for an imminent transition from fossil fuels to biomass feedstocks needed to produce commodities such as energy, plastics, adsorbents, and pharmaceuticals. This transition is needful to mitigate global warming and environmental pollution. A profound understanding of the microscopic phenomena controlling catalyst active site deposition and sensitivity, as well as polymeric micelle nucleation-growth could enable us to design fast, selective, and stable catalysts from earth abundant elements, and nano-systems, for the efficient transformation of highly reactive and recalcitrant feedstocks (e.g., biomass) to hydrocarbon fuels, chemicals, and materials, and recover valuable resources from waste-streams .
